About

Established in 1963 as the fourth department in Assam Engineering College, the department of Chemical Engineering was the oldest under-graduate chemical engineering department in the entire Northeast. It was started with an intake of 30 students, which has now been raised to 60 students since 2007. The students are drawn primarily from the State of Assam, through Common Entrance Examination (CEE) conducted state wise.

The department offers an under graduate program in Chemical Engineering. The curriculum having theory and lab, good infrastructure, well qualified and friendly faculty have been the significant mark of the department right from the beginning. The department also offers Doctoral programme with its up to date laboratory facilities. The Chemical Engineering department claims to have a glorious track record of academic and professional achievements with its alumni spread over the globe in responsible positions. Most of its alumni are well placed in upstream and downstream sectors of petroleum industry, the coal and gas sectors, the fertilizers & chemicals sectors, State and Central government organizations, Management sectors, IT sectors etc contributing services to their organization as well as to the society. The faculty of Chemical Engineering consists of committed members striving relentlessly for excellence in teaching and research and all round development of their students.

Chemical Engineering department building has its immaculate infrastructure and sufficient spaces to conduct theory and practical classes. In order to keep pace with the changing needs, new infrastructure, in terms of additional space and modern instruments, have been built and acquired utilizing funds available from Ministry of HRD, NEQIP, TEQIP, MODROBS etc. Chemical Engineering Department has a MoU with Pinnacle Healthcare Consultants to work in the field of environmental pollution control with primary focus on Bio-Medical waste management Other collaborative projects with various organizations like MHRD, IITs, ASTU have also been taken up by the department.
